Threading is a form of hair removal that gently removes unwanted hair from the eyebrows and face with the use of thread.

In threading, a thin cotton or polyester thread is doubled, then twisted. It is then rolled over areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short rows of hair.

Advantages cited for threading, as opposed to waxing and other forms of hair removal, are that it provides more precise control in shaping eyebrows/facial hair and is gentler on the skin.

Threading allows for a more defined and precise shape and can create better definition for eyebrows. It is also used as a method of removing unwanted hair on the entire face and upper lip area. It is less intrusive and messy than waxing or plucking. It does not pierce the skin and involves no tweezers or other utensils, just thread. Threading can remove hair from all parts of the face (cheeks,chin,upper lip etc.) quickly and more efficiently than any other method.

Threading is not a good method for removing hair on arms or legs, as the hair in those regions is typically quite coarse and there is too much to remove.

Many women who used to have their eyebrows waxed now prefer the look that is achieved by threading and find that the shape of their brows lasts longer.
